The balance of cross-faction interaction

16 June 2026

We have updated the cross-faction rules to prevent abuse — for example, situations where a player could heal the enemy faction during an attack on your capital city. Playing together across both factions is still available — it has simply been adjusted and made more structured.

  • Cross-faction healing and buffs
They now work only inside instances: dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, and arenas. In the open world and cities, players of different factions who are in the same group become neutral to each other — just like in Dalaran or Shattrath. You cannot heal or buff an ally from the other faction, but you also cannot fight each other.

  • Mage portals
A portal will work for a player from the opposite faction only if it leads to a neutral city — Dalaran or Shattrath. Portals to capital cities, outposts, and other locations will not work for them. This does not affect same-faction groups — everything works as usual.

  • What has NOT changed
You can still be in the same group and trade with the opposite faction anywhere. Shared dungeons, raids, and arenas are fully functional, including healing and buffs. This system will continue to be improved, so stay tuned for future updates
